What is it?

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurobehavioral condition in which a person has trouble paying attention and focusing on tasks, tends to act without thinking, and has trouble sitting still. It may begin in early childhood and can continue into adulthood. Without treatment, ADHD can cause problems at home, school, work, and with relationships.


What are the indicators? Some Possible Indicators are:

  • Student is fidgety.
  • Student is slow to respond when asked to give a direction or asked for an oral response.
  • Student is slow to respond when asked to complete written work.
  • Student often misperceives social situations.
  • Student leaves seat often and at inappropriate times.
  • Student runs or climbs or is generally overactive in inappropriate situations.
  • Student talks excessively.
  • Student has difficulty playing or working quietly.
  • Student is always on the go.
  • Student tends to blurt out answers and has trouble waiting for his/her turn.
  • Student has difficulty maintaining attention on the task at hand.
  • Student interrupts often and has difficulty listening.
  • Student loses things (and is forgetful) that are necessary for the task.
  • Student fails to give close attention to detail.
  • Student is easily distracted.
